Artist's Comments

They said I was wise, but I overheard you call me - old.
They said I was eccentric, but you told others I was senile.
They said they valued time with me - but they forgot to visit.
They said I was important to them - then deceived me.
They said they needed me - but needed what I had.

Now there is nothing, and I welcome it's honesty.

(The Beast in Me - words and music by the immortal Johnny Cash)

Another great photo!
Is this man just one of your models, or is he related to you somehow? Very photogenic!

In all honesty, he was a client that came into the Art Gallery to have a glass replaced on a frame.
While staff were weilding the weapons out the back - we had a few minutes.
I found out that he he lived 350 miles away (500 km) and that he gave poetry recitals at Folk Clubs. His speciality was Medieval Poetry, although he was often called on to read Shakespeare.
I thought he looked the part....

I had recently finished a shoot, and still had some fabrics in the car. I asked if he would mind playing dressups (just chiffon tossed around his street clothes) - and we shot 20 frames in the Gallery doorway (see scraps) in a few minutes.

No time to get him into the studio - no lighting setup except a make-shift reflector (an Artists raw Canvas).

I purposely posed him in ways that would allow me to place things in his hands later, and have him appear to be looking at or using them.

The shots were handheld, at ridiculouly low res - (I had a camera problem saving hi-res images) and at very slow shutter speeds and no depth of field. - so the tech quality is low. However - they look fine in life sized prints (at the Gallery).

He has received prints, and artwork for a CD cover, and I hope to receive a CD of his Readings soon.

He has never modelled before and believes the last pic taken of him was at his wedding 56 years earlier. He is 78. His real name is Roger.

What a lucky encounter! I hope his wife won't rush him so much the next time somebody wants to take photos of him. :)
Such a classical look.

I have been known as an opportunistic photographer - if this the outcome - I'll live with it.

honesty is VERY important, no matter what....

you are so very wise, i adore your eccentricity, our time is always valuable, you will forever be important to me, ..........and i need you....where have you been?

My dad, who first taught me to think when I looked through the viewfinder, is 86.

Beautiful portrait.
