So far the only way I've got past this effect is to use panoramas that do not have any obvious visual to allow the viewers eye to become confused by the distortion. In this case I would have left off the road at either end. The sweeping view will still be there, however the 'mind altering' effect at each end would be removed.
Don't get me wrong, I like a good panorama, and have many in my gallery, and this one is very pretty.
One other way to improve a panorama is to convert it to a Quicktime VR image. This allows the viewer to pan around in the image as if they are standing in it. This has been done by others here on dA to good effect.
What do I not love so much? The sky, as you move right on the picture becomes increasingly blown. I know you don't work the same way as me in post-prod, but I would have segmented the shot in vertical halves and then added a hugely feathered levels adjustment to the top in order to try to gently bring it down.
Pfft, but since when does the apprentice tell the tradie how to do the job?
